A Lesson In Living

My most valuable lesson

Came late in life

About a woman who held a child

That she signed up somewhere

So she could get to work

She might love this child

She might not

She might be happy

Her stomach might be turning in knots

She may greet her offspring like a tired employee

And fight them out of the space

Where "Hi" is what they are aiming to see

There may be something going on

And now their eyes are wide shut

I am somebodies baby

That did a good job wherever they had got signed up
