The Double Standard That Comes With "Be Beautiful, Be You"
October 23, 2019
I was watching an E True Hollywood about women in Hip Hop and something that was said really sparked my mind by Salt from the group Salt N Pepa. She talked about a double standard in regards to the concept of "Be beautiful, be you.' It made sense to me that is is problematic to think that people cannot cause a healthy commotion about their body or self-image. Typically those statements are about situations where people are internalizing a standard of beauty that does not have to do with them. There is a difference between not feeling beautiful while your face is acne ridden or your weight has increased due to some factor. And in the middle of watching this television show a commercial for Botched comes on. I also watched this video by Lizzo during this television watching session. Seems like a good roster to me.
